Mara Viksnins is a mixed media artist who enjoys watercolor, acrylics, collage and pen & ink. Mother Nature embodies many of her works and she is very interested in iconography and religious paintings. She will often use some of the symbolic language of the old masters. Her interests are the environment and the role of women in today’s world.
Mara has won many awards. Her works have been displayed at the Florida State Capitol as well as in Washington, DC. She has been President of the National League of American Pen Women for ten years.
Her latest work involves coastal scenes and her Madre DeDios series- landscapes with a subtle textural, mixed media emphasis. She often also focuses on the female figure and loves to create and show the special bond that women have with nature. She has a BA in Fine Art from the University of West Florida and has attended many national workshops. Mara firmly believes “The artist is a receptacle of emotion,” and “The picture lives only through the person who is looking at it.”-Picasso
